Have you ever been to Walton’s Fancy & Staple? Did you know it’s owned by the one and only Sandra Bullock? Yep, the charming café in downtown Austin is owned by Bullock and her sister, and we have to say—it’s not your typical celebrity-owned spot. It’s full of heart, incredible food and you can feel the love in every little detail.

Why did Sandra Bullock open a café in Austin?
Bullock has had a deep connection to Austin for years. She used to live here full time (when she was married to Jesse James), though she spends less time in the ATX nowadays. Learn why here.
In 2009, however, she took over a historic building on West 6th Street and gave it new life as Walton’s Fancy & Staple. She was hands-on in every step of the process, making sure the building’s old-school charm stayed intact while creating something fresh and inviting. The A-list star wanted it to feel like a modern general store, a place where people could grab a coffee, pick up fresh bread, or even buy a bouquet of flowers. And honestly? She nailed it.
You may recall that she also owned Bess Bistro back in the day. That spot is now the site of Devil May Care.
What’s on the menu at Walton’s Fancy and Staple?
Open for breakfast, lunch and early evening, the cafe features an expansive menu. From breakfast offerings like farm-fresh eggs and scratch biscuits and gravy, to gourmet sandwiches with all-natural meat roasted in-house daily and bountiful salads. They even offer daily rotating Blue Plate Specials. The full menu is fantastic, but their real specialty is their wide array of scrumptious desserts created each day by skilled pastry chefs.
We tried a little bit of everything, and here’s what we loved:
- Local Salad – Super fresh, perfectly balanced and just the right amount of crunch.
- Shrimp & Grits – Creamy, buttery and packed with flavor. This is the ultimate comfort food.
- Beignets with Berries – So light and airy, they instantly took us back to New Orleans.
- Macarons – Hands down, some of the best we’ve ever had. They are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and bursting with flavor.
- Chocolate Tart – Rich, smooth and not too sweet, this is the perfect little indulgence.
Every dish feels thoughtfully made, with high-quality ingredients and real attention to detail.
